The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. Every Nicolas Every Cage All at Once
在人生180°转弯时，还有这么多人愿意作伴嬉笑怒骂，已经是人生赢家了。
看了这么多年MR.CAGE的好片和烂片之后，对其中的很多元素还真挺有共鸣的。
我的评价是：不如《帕丁顿熊2》
一开始以为很自反，结果还是很自恋。p.s.完全忘记帕丁顿熊2讲的啥了
尼古拉斯凯奇：大家镇定一下，我要开始飙戏了！（但是无效飙戏）本质上和《采访》差不多，玩梗抖机灵驱动的恶搞喜剧唠嗑片，剥削明星最后那一丁点剩余价值，除了偶尔的迷影梗之外，看到尼古拉斯扮演中年危机的尼古拉斯凯奇真的好无聊啊，絮絮叨叨的，反而还多了一点油腻（？）另外一点在意的是，蒂凡尼哈迪斯怎么胖成这样了！
凯奇式的致敬自己，对过去自己的模仿是个陷阱，因它无法超越

有点早年的尼古拉斯凯奇作品味道了，也算是一种演员与自己过往的和解方式，用一部电影致敬过去，有点浪漫。
三星半。看完这片子的第一感想是‘凯奇不欠债了挺好’。《帕丁顿熊2》和《变脸》就是好看，正确的客观的一针见血的。概念很有趣可惜差一口气（在嗑acid那一段感到了穷），我好希望凯奇真儿子来客串一下😸😸😸说是温情版《危情十日》，emmm好吧很难反驳
尼古拉斯·凯奇你已经快六十了，还在拍烂片，甚至用一部电影去讲述烂片演员翻身的故事，而这部电影本身也烂得可以。
想法不错 算是美国版的自成一体的自己致敬自己了 凯奇叔也算是临老高光了一把 虽然选的电影都有点cherry-pick 但想法算是不错的了
天才与疯子只在一念之间，相当于凯奇宇宙的一次年终总结吧，尼古拉斯凯奇本色出演尼古拉斯凯奇就是最大的亮点，疯狂吐槽自己的人生，把能玩的梗都玩一遍，但是没能延伸出更多的凯奇状态，于是乎才发现，这部电影的可看性和趣味性也就这么点了。
影片最大的反转就是这个戏中戏了吧，所以当已经猜出这个时候观感就下降了很多。但这个情怀我还是买帐的，而且影片足够有意思。
致敬自己，嘲讽自己，对话自己，审视自己，接纳自己。凯奇的演艺生涯不可谓不传奇，也不可谓不曲折。因为辉煌过，所以更需要勇气面对跌落神坛后的不堪。作为观众如果喜欢曾经那个熠熠生辉的凯奇，在吐槽多年烂片王的如今，看完本片也请接受这个迟暮的凯奇吧。虽然本片的剧本依旧···一般。【三星半】

低于预期
最后也还是又拍了一部平庸之作。不过能静下心来看看还是不错的。
