The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 私心的年度华语最佳。我从看到大家一起聊索菲亚罗兰开始就泪流不止，没道理的那种，在单身又无儿无女的中年男人面前，爱情的神话一半在现实、一半在想象，一半在天上、一半在地下，一半在回头望，一半在朋友圈。
3.女导演的反击引起思考：女人这辈子没有…是不完整的，我只不过犯了一个天下男人都会犯的错（男人出轨和女人出轨的不同后果确实是现状），男生能不能化妆（都是性别刻板印象）。画廊吐槽男导演拍戏很精辟，多元化也体现在一个人会有很多面。
支持电影用方言的我对于接地气的上海话感觉每个字都叨叨叨在我神经上 生理不适 但是不得不承认这部电影把上海和上海人表现得真挚又可爱 饭桌戏很好看 （但是没事就靠配英文歌铺情绪很低级 跟某些人打造的上海的“洋气”一样非常刻意
思想解放
今年院线片里比较令人感到惊喜的一部。坚固的东西都烟消云散了，但并非所有东西都消失了，那些琐碎的、已逝的甚至混乱的难道不是真实存在的吗？确实是中产趣味，但亦假亦真的那一笔有举重若轻的神韵
要真挑毛病也不是没有，但胜在用心，没把观众当傻子糊弄，最后的镜头挺有意思：灯光一亮，我们就是爱情神话本身。而且白日密语的《1975》太好听啦！！！
个人一直偏爱方言电影，很舒服的文艺中年片，不油腻不抓马不喜剧。虽然很多台词跟核心的爱情神话故事本身都有很重的缝合痕迹，在这些中年演员自然表演下不会违和。精沪一本满足。#上海影城cinity
这是一部充满烟火气的成人爱情，非常喜欢这部电影的主题是爱情、成年人爱情、甚至上海成年人爱情。整体观影感受非常轻松，笑点恰到好处但又很别致。特别是三个女人餐桌飙戏的时候，完全被吸引住，群像演技很炸裂。还有老乌在大家面前说那段亦真亦假的故事时，我狠狠emo了一把。整部剧情最喜欢的点就是每回大家围坐在一起举杯的时候，举起酒杯说说笑笑的样子。谁会不喜欢和朋友们这样的生活呢？徐峥老师监制的电影没有失望过。总体来看，爱情神话值得一看。
对于儿子的女朋友，他的选择比儿子还要坚定，就是认准了洋洋这个女孩。
结尾处大家为了纪念老乌强忍无聊看《爱情神话》，被白老师的“去准备些点心”打破尴尬，真是白老师的高光时刻，我要是李小姐，我也明天下午约他喝杯咖啡。中年爱情，终于走出刘涛靳东们的精英化了。
影片质感 完成度都非常棒。知道这是部女性向的片子 但徐峥周野芒这么棒 还是惊喜。方言很重要。
甚至完全可以算第一
其实这片子要是变得更有趣的话，完全可以让主角们一室喝一夜酒聊一宿天，更为放肆地讨论爱情婚姻男女那些事，到底有没有爱情神话呢，也说不准。
配乐和台词都很认真花心思了
近来看的最棒一部国产片了，基于传统男女人设进行对调，三个女性角色如李小姐（异域离异格调神秘的野花）格洛丽亚（小野猫有钱有闲吃了抹嘴就跑）、前妻（犯了男人都会犯的错），以及两位男性角色白辛苦和浪荡子老乌，三女两男让一出私房菜成为一锅大锅饭，并且这还是个很有韵味和腔调，充满了戏谑和幽默的故事，我个人很喜欢导演给的这种视角和剧本语言。

看上去老白是最软弱、好说话的那一个，但是他是选择最坚定的，从头到尾都知道自己想要什么。
马伊琍吴越倪虹洁的组合太棒了。你只会关注她们的演技。不会去盯着她们的年龄长相胡思乱想。
