During the US Civil War, Union POWs escape in a balloon and end up stranded on a South Pacific island, inhabited by giant plants and animals. In 1865, during the siege of Richmond, Virginia, the union soldiers POW Captain Harding, Neb and Herbert escape in a balloon during a storm with two confederate prisoners, Sergeant Pencroft and the journalist Spilett. The uncontrollable wind takes the balloon to a mysterious island in the South Pacific in the area of New Zealand. Captain Harding self-proclaims the leader of the group and they look for food; sooner they discover that they are stranded in an island. Further, they are attacked by a giant crab that becomes their first meal. Along the days, they build a shelter and finds that the island is inhabited by giant animals. A couple of days later, they find two castaways on the beach, the aristocratic Lady Mary Fairchild and her sexy niece Elena. Later they find a trunk with weapons and instruments like sextant and shelter with a journal of a man left alone in the island by pirates. When the pirate vessel arrives in the island, they are helped by Captain Nemo of the Nautilus, a submarine that had supposedly sunk in the coast of Mexico eight years ago. 然后就出现了全片唯一的彩色片段。
有才华的创作者有特权用各种奇技淫巧（褒义）展现俗气、庸常和琐碎的东西，比如秀恩爱、比如对世俗的反抗。

真的很喜欢洪尚秀眼里的金喜善，那种爱意和他们俩对于周遭的态度，总是能让你莞尔，这种情感加上电影中意外邂逅的相遇，促成的故事。一种随性的松弛感。
没有情节的故事、没有大哥们的世界，多美好。

惊喜的点：口罩和电子烟 这两个很当下的元素被顺势平移到了电影里，因为影片中戴口罩这一举动几乎没有任何叙事上的作用，但老洪没有回避反而保留了，让我很意外。
人生无处不尴尬，人生无处不趣味。尽管室外场景大多都在过曝状态，还是觉得洪常秀的黑白片质感比彩色片好很多。结尾一定是故意的，这表白方式也没谁了倒是……

那些尬住的留白和笑着的化解，那些见面前的犹豫不决，见面后的进退失据，这一切不就是他电影的意义吗？不就是我们生活里的真实写照吗？
全片都可看作一场关乎电影创作的自我指涉，从早期痴迷于雕琢结构到此刻随心所欲举重若轻，洪无疑已经达到了一个新的创作境界。片尾的影像既是一种真实的在场又充斥着梦的呓语，倒不如说是一种纯粹的创作冲动——影像在完成的刹那便如烟雾般消散，从而完成了对自身的忘却。
纪念第一次大荧幕看洪，过曝的瑕疵反而营造了梦境的氛围，结尾快要哭出来
虽然我知道导演的想法，我也知道粉丝的想法，也理解电影节评审的想法，但我还是觉得太普通了。某种意义上，这是小众粉丝的圈地自萌。

一部纯真的爱情电影，看到最后竟然有点感动。
观看诸如此类的“话痨”电影，于我而言，对片中的大量对白是否感兴趣相当重要，好在这部《小说家的电影》里聊到的好些话题是我喜闻乐见的。—— 台词：每个人都可以选择他想要的生活，你觉得她是个小孩子吗？如果她选择了她的道路并为之开心，我们应该尊重她。浪费？你知道那个词意味着什么吗？意味着她在做的事情是错的，或者她生活的方式是错的。你怎么可以对一个成年人这样说？她不是小学生，你难道比她自己还要更热爱她的生活吗？还是说你更懂生活？你更聪明？你根本没摆正自己的位置！每个人都想用自己的方式过自己的生活，不是所有人都在乎钱的。你要认识到这一点。浪费？不要浪费我们自己的生命就好了。
现实小说家的才智不是编一个精彩的故事，而是把最乏味的故事也能讲得引人入胜动人心弦，就像梵高画的那双旧鞋子，关键不在题材，而是艺术。这部电影不能说非常乏味，也是常规乏味。
