The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. When a dinner party conversation leads to an honest discussion about the state of their love life, and when a sexy bikini photo shoot leads to crossword puzzles instead of sex, they begin to flirt with a way to spice things up. The deal: one night of freedom, no strings attached, no questions asked. Could a freebie be the cure for their ailing sex life? And will they go through with it? 异常中的日常，是覆盖生活的全方位关怀，那些集体记忆中珍贵的情感和善意，会跨越时间给受困的人类带来力量。没想到全剧只有十二个演员，场景转换，人物多样，内容多元，让人感动，催人振奋，是可以排进前三的音乐剧了。
这部舞台剧层次非常丰富，大到人道主义，小到个人友情、爱情；从种族问题讲到女性、LGBT群体的社会接纳；有生离死别，也有相遇重逢。正如剧中所唱，一些东西失去了，另一些被建立起来了。

它对这件事的表达不伤、不煽，也不那么戏剧，反而是贴近日常生活的平实温和。
“humanity”是我看这部音乐剧能想到的一个词。2000年的9.11，我正值小学，放学回家的傍晚，家里电视开着，爸妈在电视机前目瞪口呆，电视上滚动播出美国世贸大厦被飞机撞击的新闻画面，虽然才小学，但那个画面此生难忘。911不仅改变了美国，二十年后看，911还改变了整个世界。以经历911一天的人作为对象的整部音乐剧非常好看。
