The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. 逻辑恰当的商业电影。剧作的人文立足点借由科学家的视角一边批判北边的“工具恶用”，一边又敲打南边的“卷之社会”。
农村青年怀揣梦想到城市打工，遭遇黑心老板。一到之后就收缴身份证、手机，非法拘禁，限制自由，克扣工资，稍有反抗就暴力相向，有逃跑者严惩不贷。遇到政府劳工部门检查，就胁迫劳工配合，蒙混过关。

如果在议员选举时把黑心产业链曝光就是爽剧级别，但结果是自甘被驯化，倒也算赤裸裸的现实。
7/10 以为要开启新生活的少年，殊不知自己陷入了卖身一般的深渊。从最开始的反抗，到之后慢慢变得服从，曾经的工人也背叛了工人阶级，反而站在资本的一方。整体意外地还不错，只是男主的挣扎可以再深刻一点，结尾的处理可以再有戏剧冲突一点。
光打得真好！表演也自然，制作真漂亮！情节也用了合理的蒙太奇做了改善提升。就这个翻译啊……实在太糟糕了。最后这叛北者为什么要帮这小孩啊？突然就良心发现了……
