The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will.     有太多情节叫我拍案，除了两人交织的“学习时间”之外，最喜欢的是当丁若铨讲宣起教来，昌大竟学古人洗起耳朵来了——所以他们也许从来没有达成过一致吧。 又或者当昌大到罗州经历过一遭，他会体会到前情所隐去的、前辈们的“心死”吧。可那时他是否会赞同丁的西学呢？也许我所批评的“脚轻”，就是导演想展示的循环和无解吧。

    看到男主跟岛上大妈莫名其妙在一起、大妈还怀孕了就实在看不进去了，到底俩人的情感来源于哪……这到底是什么剧情……这评分溢价太严重了，比《思悼》还差很多，而其实《思悼》的剧本就已经很凑合很对付了。希望这个导演多打磨打磨剧本吧，如果不够专业，找专业的人也行的～

    印象中没有见过薛景求拍过古装类型的戏，不愧是变色龙，什么角色都能驾驭的好，事实证明导演大胆启用卞约汉也是非常正确的选择，如今能看到这样的片子是种很幸福很难得的事情了，因为咱们没有这个耐心和魄力拍出这样的作品，第一次看黑白片没感觉到闷，不过换成彩色应该又是另一种风格了

    兹山鱼谱的意义，本身在于兹山，而非鱼谱。本以为著书立说是为了流芳百世，却不想其实是为了教化世人。有入世才能有出世，昌大已经走过一回了。故事其实更加向是生活流，但是顺畅不拧巴，感情也够真挚，但愿能多拿奖。这应该真的就是韩国电影今年最佳了。

    主题散漫，感觉没什么重点。理学与基督教，读书与功名，官场与理想，每个点都一带而过。以传记来说，故事说得蛮轻松的，不知道跟这个散漫的主题之间谁成就了谁，总觉得动不动走神。同样的鉴于叙事和主题的随意，这个黑白镜头非常没意义，有种硬拗出点装逼气质的嫌疑，怪怪的。

    对沉重历史的轻柔触碰。导演对主题敏感度很高，一开始主题非常好，为苍生福祉放弃自己的信仰，和借信仰之名戕害苍生福祉，展示人性复杂，具备现实意义。后面提到徒弟意识形态摇摆，师徒意识形态分歧，我一度觉得这些人性复杂度很高级，后来发现只是为揭露封建社会腐败做铺垫，沦为黑白对错口号式评判，一直批判没什么，先复杂后面越来越简单就有点跌份。结尾煽情廉价。技术有明显瑕疵，镜头设计不熟练，剪辑点不连贯，转场生硬，“看！是谁来了”“看！那是什么”“看！有你的信”是最懒惰的转场方式之一，频频出戏，更不必说有些转场连过场戏都没有。中文字幕质量欠佳。薛耿求李姃垠年龄变化、卞约汉阶层变化的表演值得赞赏。
